Adopt, don’t shop! Don’t let other dogs end up like Sarge
I get the appeal of a fluffy purebred puppy – new and unformed, a precious creature you can integrate into your life, coming to you with no baggage, no prior ill treatment, no bad habits. Yeah. I get that. But there are millions of dogs in shelters, on the streets, getting maybe basic care but virtually homeless. Some were abandoned or surrendered, some had owners who died, there are all sorts of sad stories. I am not here to bash breeders or those who buy dogs from breeders. It’s a very personal choice. Instead, this is an appeal to go to a shelter, offer a hopeless dog some renewed hope. It may not be perfect – many are works in progress. But no dog lover can look at those sad eyes and not be stirred. Please – adopt, don’t (immediately, anyway) shop. Give one of those homeless pooches a shot!
